The Mastercard is a premium bank card that includes coverage akin to a travel insurance. To date, only two online banks offer the Gold Mastercard for free under certain conditions. Other institutions may grant it but at a cost.
The banks able to issue the gold Mastercard are:
- ING Direct: this is free under certain conditions such as having a minimum monthly income of €1200;
- Fortuneo, also free and under certain conditions, the first being a monthly income of at least €1800;
- Crédit Mutuel which offers it at the lowest market price (payment of €127 per year);
- HSBC with a subscription fee of €134 per year.
Additionally, Société Générale where the fee is €135 per year.
The advantage of having the gold Mastercard is that it covers its holder at several levels:
- Emergency repatriation insurance;
- Health coverage: coverage of medical and hospitalization costs abroad;
- Liability insurance;
- Assistance.
It is also useful in case of theft, damage, or loss of luggage and/or identity papers during the trip.
Make an online request
After obtaining the gold Mastercard, the final step is obtaining the travel certificate. This certificate covers the holder as well as their spouse and unmarried children under the age of 25.
The easiest way to obtain the travel insurance certificate is to make a request online. Simply go to the official Mondiale Attestation website. Then, enter the first nine digits of your bank card. This will lead to the customer area where the client must click on their current account, then on the “Manage your account” tab, and finally on “Card services”. By accessing the Mondial Assistance website, the travel certificate will be downloaded. You will also need to enter the contract number 920000.
The certificate is automatically issued in 2 minutes in PDF format and sent to the requester by email or mail. The certificate is available in multiple languages such as French, English, Spanish… According to the requirements of the destination country, the travel insurance certificate can be translated into one of these languages.
The traveler may be required to provide a physical or original travel certificate. The valid gold Mastercard insurance certificate must include important personal information such as:
- First and last name;
- The duration of the stay;
- Covered destination;
- Policy number.
It also includes the guarantees and the coverage limit.
